{"id":37172,"date":"2019-08-13T17:57:00","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T16:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/news-and-press-releases\/press-release\/2019\/08\/48512-pt_pt\/"},"modified":"2019-08-13T17:57:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T16:57:00","slug":"48512","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/pt-pt\/news-and-press-releases\/press-release\/detail\/48512\/","title":{"rendered":"Estudo da UM recebe pr\u00e9mio por avan\u00e7ar a tecnologia de armazenamento computacional de pr\u00f3xima gera\u00e7\u00e3o"},"content":{"rendered":"\n                        \n                        <p>A paper titled \u2018High-Temperature Magnetic and Structural\nProperties of Single-Crystal YCrO<sub>3<\/sub>\u2019, written by\nZhu Yinghao, a PhD student from the University of Macau (UM) Institute of\nApplied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME), was presented at the 2019 Joint Annual Conference\nof Physical Societies in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and\nreceived an Excellent Poster Award. Zhu\u2019s study focuses on the magnetic property, crystallographic structure, and multiferroic\nmechanism of multiferroic YCrO<sub>3<\/sub> single crystal at high temperatures\n(300-1200 K). The study has found that YCrO<sub>3\n<\/sub>can greatly increase\nthe storage space on hard disks under certain conditions. The discovery is\nexpected to help advance next-generation computer storage technologies.<\/p><p>In the design of computer hard disks currently available on the market, information is written by an external magnetic field and the process\ninvolves the consumption of a large amount of energy. Zhu\u2019s study has found\nthat by taking advantage of the magnetoelectric coupling characteristics of\nmulti-ferric materials and writing magnetic potential with energy-saving\nelectric fields, the amount of energy consumption in hard disk storage can be\ngreatly reduced. These materials will help to drive the development of big data\ncomputation technologies.<\/p><p>The study has also found that multiferroic materials have the following\nadvantages: a) Using the external electric field to achieve magnetic storage can\ngreatly reduce energy consumption and heat release, so it can be widely used in\ncapacitors, high-performance information storage, displacement, pressure and\nmagnetoelectric sensors. b) With the adoption of multiferroic materials, heat\ndissipation can be reduced in the computer operation process ; c) The\ncombination of electricity and magnetism of multiferroic materials makes it\npossible to store several states in one unit. This can be adopted to fabricate new-generation\nmulti-state storing spintronic devices and increase the storage capacity. The study\nwas led by Dr Li Haifeng, an assistant professor from the IAPME, and funded by\nthe Macao Science and Technology Development Fund. A patent is pending for the\ntechnology.<\/p><p>The 2019 Joint Annual Conference of Physical\nSocieties in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held at Sun Yat-sen\nUniversity. Jointly organised by the Physical Society of Guangdong, the\nPhysical Society of Hong Kong, and the Physical Society of Macao, this year\u2019s\nevent attracted over 225 experts, scholars, researchers, and industry\npractitioners in the field from the Greater Bay Area and other parts of China. IAPME\nDirector Tang Zikang, Prof Liu Tzu-Ming from the\nFaculty of Health Sciences, professors from other universities, and members of\nthe Chinese Academy of Sciences gave keynote speeches at the
