The University of Macau (UM) today\n(8 August) held an academic forum titled \u2018The Prospect of Research in\nHumanities, Social Science, Business, Law and Education\u2019. The event aimed to\nexplore opportunities for the integration of and collaboration between\ndifferent academic disciplines as well as to shed light on the future of research\nin these fields. The event attracted many UM scholars, researchers, and\npostgraduate students.<\/p>
In his speech, UM Rector\nYonghua Song said that in recent years UM has established new research centres\nand labs, including state key labs, for the studies of various disciplines,\nincluding humanities, social sciences, and science and technology. According to\nSong, it is now a good time to contemplate the direction of these fields,\nespecially in terms of research. Song added that the forum provided a platform\nfor scholars to exchange ideas on the possibilities in the development of different\nacademic disciplines.<\/p>
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe forum was moderated by Prof Billy So, vice rector\n(student affairs) and chair professor of history at UM. The four keynote\nspeakers were Prof Alan Chan, vice president (alumni and advancement) and Toh\nPuan Mahani Idris Daim Chair Professor of Humanities at Nanyang Technological\nUniversity, Singapore; Prof Hong Yingyi, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Marketing at\nthe Chinese University of Hong Kong; Prof Angela Leung, director of the Hong\nKong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, who is also a chair\nprofessor of history and Joseph Needham-Philip Mao Professor in Chinese History,\nScience, and Civilisation, at the University of Hong Kong; as well as Prof Yu\nXingzhong, Anthony W and Lulu C Wang Professor in Chinese Law at Cornell\nUniversity.<\/p>
