This year marks the tenth anniversary of the University\nof Macau (UM) Honours College (HC). Over the past decade, the HC has nurtured\nmany outstanding young leaders for society. To celebrate the tenth anniversary,\nthe HC has organised a series of activities. The HC admitted 195 outstanding\nstudents from the 2019\/2020 academic year.<\/p>\n\n
The HC follows a merits-based principle when admitting\nnew members. It is committed to producing future leaders for Macao and its\nneighbouring regions by providing tailor-made honours programmes and\nopportunities for overseas study that are designed to broaden the students\u2019\nhorizons and help them develop a global mindset, leadership skills, and a\nstrong sense of social responsibility.<\/p>\n\n
At the celebration of the tenth anniversary and the\nopening ceremony for the new cohort of students admitted to the HC, University\nCouncil (UC) Chair Lam Kam Seng, Acting Rector Rui Martins, HC Dean Rose Lai,\nHC Founding Dean Mok Kai Meng, and President of the Executive Committee of UM\nAlumni Association Lee Cheuk Him made handprints to celebrate the joyous\noccasion. This year, the HC admitted 195 outstanding students of 31 different\nmajors from seven countries and regions. UC Chair Lam Kam Seng, Acting Rector\nRui Martins, and Vice Rectors Ge Wei, Billy So and Kou Mei presented admission\ncertificates to the new cohort of students. In her speech, Dean Lai said that\nUM devotes a lot of resources to nurturing outstanding students, adding that\nover the past decade, the HC has nurtured 322 outstanding students who have\ngone on to become useful members of society in different industries.<\/p>\n\n
Statistics show that the past eight cohorts of graduates\nfrom HC have done very well whether they chose to find a job or pursue higher\neducation. The majority of the HC graduates have been hired by multinational\ncompanies, such as Ernst & Young (Macao) and PwC (Macao), or accepted by\ngraduate schools of renowned universities overseas. such as Imperial College\nLondon and the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United\nKingdom; the University of Michigan and Rice University in the United States;\nthe University of British Columbia in Canada; the University of Hong Kong and\nthe Chinese University of Hong Kong; and; and Peking University.<\/p>\n\n
The celebratory activities for the tenth anniversary of\nthe HC include a forum, a dinner, and a small concert. There is also a photo\nexhibition in the University Hall to display the HC\u2019s development over the past\ndecade. The exhibition will last until 30 September. All are welcome.<\/p>
