The University of Macau (UM)\nState Key Lab of the Internet of Things for Smart City recently signed a\ncollaboration agreement with the Center for Space Remote Sensing Demonstration\nunder China National Space Administration (CNSA), becoming the first institute\nin Hong Kong and Macao to collaborate with a space remote sensing scientific\ndemonstration unit. By signing the agreement, both parties hope to combine\ntheir strengths for collaborative innovation and to promote the\ncommercialisation of scientific research results in the field of ground\napplication systems in satellite remote sensing big data, which will be\nbeneficial to the training of professionals and scientific research in the\nGuangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).<\/p>
The agreement was signed by Xu\nChengzhong, dean of UM\u2019s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and Gu\nXingfa, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political\nConsultative Conference and director of the Center for Space Remote Sensing\nDemonstration. Under the agreement, both parties will work together to advance\nthe development of key technologies for satellite remote sensing ground\napplication systems, improve the quality of remote sensing big data to support\nground application systems, and conduct technological research studies on\nAI-based remote sensing big data processing, services, as well as development\nof software, in order to expand their influence in China and overseas.<\/p>
UM\u2019s State Key Lab of the\nInternet of Things for Smart City has a strong research team. Through research\nstudies covering various areas, including modern information technology,\ncommunications technology, computational technology, big data, artificial\nintelligence, and the Internet of Things, the lab aims to search for new\nsolutions for issues that emerge with urban development. The lab also hopes to\npromote the development of basic scientific research and to achieve\nbreakthroughs in the development of key technologies and interdisciplinary\ncollaboration, in order to support smart city development in Macao, the GBA,\nand other parts of the country.<\/p>
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>
Relying on the strengths and\nresources of the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth of the Chinese\nAcademy of Sciences, the centre mainly conducts research on space remote\nsensing policies, norms, and development trends in China and overseas. It also\nconducts scientific demonstration of satellite remote sensing observation\nsystems, ground and aviation analogy tests of new space remote sensing\nobservation systems, as well as the development of key technologies for\nsatellite remote sensing applications. The centre also provides expert\ndatabases and knowledge databases to facilitate strategic decisions concerning\nChina’s space remote sensing development. It also provides technical means for\nremote sensing scientific demonstration, serves as a platform for idea exchange\nbetween departments in China and international countries, and carries out\nbasic, far-sighted and strategic research projects, so as to provide the\nNational Defense Science and Technology Bureau with scientific and technical\nsupport for management and decision-making in the field of civil aerospace.<\/p>
