<\/a>The University of Macau (UM) will offer the\nMaster of Science (MSc) programmes in <\/a>Construction\nProject Management <\/a>and Smart Ocean Technology in the 2024\/2025\nacademic year. Providing cutting-edge knowledge about construction project\nmanagement and smart ocean technology respectively, the programmes aim to\ncultivate more high-end industry professionals for Macao, accelerate the\ndevelopment of emerging industries, and contribute to the optimisation and\ntransformation of Macao\u2019s economic structure.<\/p>\n\n

According to Xu Cheng-Zhong, dean and chair professor of UM\u2019s Faculty\nof Science and Technology, the university launches these two new master\u2019s\nprogrammes in response to the intensifying global competition. The programmes\naim to provide essential talent support for Macao\u2019s diversification development.\nIn today\u2019s world, new technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data,\nartificial intelligence, and blockchain are driving the industrialisation,\ndigitisation, and intelligent transformation of the construction industry. By cultivating\n<\/a>high-end\nprofessionals <\/a>with construction and management knowledge, modern and\ninformation management skills, and modular construction project management abilities,\nthe MSc in Construction Project Management will contribute to the modern development\nof Macao and China as a whole. On the other hand, as a <\/a>coastal city<\/a>,\nMacao has significant development potential in the field of smart ocean\ntechnology. UM has focused on the development of ocean science in recent years.\nThe university has established relevant research centres, departments, and\ndegree programmes to promote talent cultivation and research innovation in the\nmarine sector. The new MSc in Smart Ocean Technology will help nurture more\nprofessionals in this field and enhance Macao\u2019s capabilities in ocean exploration<\/a> and marine\nenvironmental forecasting<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

The MSc in Construction Project Management is a two-year programme.\nIt is designed to cultivate construction professionals as well as practitioners\nin related fields. Students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to address\ncurrent and future challenges in the construction environment. Moreover, they will\ngain a thorough understanding of project management principles and learn to\napply them across different stages of the construction project development\ncycle, which will enable them to achieve successful project outcomes in terms\nof time, cost, quality, safety and sustainability. <\/a>The programme will also\nprovide students with the state-of-the-art knowledge and technology in the\nconstruction industry, ensuring they are well prepared to meet the demands of\nthe future workforce.<\/a><\/p>\n\n

The MSc in Smart Ocean Technology is also a\ntwo-year programme. It is designed to train students to master the principles\nand techniques of information and data acquisition in oceans, big data science,\nadvanced data processing, underwater acoustics and imaging, underwater\ncommunication and ocean sensors. Students will also learn to apply these skills\nto research and development of marine equipment, marine observation and\nforecasting, and marine management. Graduates will possess the professional\nskills necessary for marine observation and monitoring, conducting ocean research,\nand working in the marine high-tech industries.<\/a><\/p>\n\n
