During the event,\nheads of Peking University (PKU), Tsinghua University,&nbsp; Zhejiang University\n(ZJU), Fudan University, and UM shared their views online on modern college\neducation. The event included a book launch for a new book on UM\u2019s residential\ncollege (RC) system and its facilities.<\/p><p>According\nto Rector Yonghua Song, the RCs at UM provide a platform for students to\nintegrate their knowledge. The RC system reflects the university\u2019s \u20184-in-1\u2019\nmodel of education in line with the concept of whole-person education to\nnurture university graduates with academic achievements and moral integrity. Students\nfrom different academic disciplines live together in each RC, thereby creating\na stimulating learning environment where they not only can learn from each\nother, but also can communicate with people of different disciplines or\ncultural backgrounds. Living in the RCs, students can develop a global\nperspective, learn to think independently, and uphold self-confidence in terms\nof their cultural backgrounds. The RC experiences will also help students apply\nthemselves effectively in real-life situations once they enter the workforce,\nas they have been well prepared to navigate the world with global\ncompetitiveness.<\/p><p>Speakers\nat the forum included PKU Executive Vice President and Provost Gong Qihuang, Tsinghua University Vice President Peng Gang,&nbsp; ZJU Vice President He Lianzhen, Fudan\nUniversity Vice President Xu Lei, and UM Vice Rector Billy So. During the\nforum, the speakers shared their experience in implementing RC systems and\ndiscussed how they are conductive to educating students. The speakers also\nexchanged ideas on the new opportunities for university education and RC\neducation in China.<\/p><p>In\naddition, UM held a book launch for a new book titled \u2018University Residential\nColleges: Whole-Person Education in Action &#8212;&#8211; The Experience of University\nof Macau\u2019. Editors of the book include Rector Yonghua Song and Vice Rector\nBilly So. The book is available in hard copy and as an e-book online, with its\ncontent covering the origin, evolution, and vision of UM\u2019s RC system. Beginning\nwith a discussion on college education in China and the West from a historical\nperspective, the book provides an overview of UM\u2019s RC education and \u20184-in-1\u2019\nmodel of education. The book also describes how the university has built upon\nthe foundation of its RC education 1.0 to develop the 2.0 version, as well as\nthe philosophy and facilities of the RCs from different perspectives.
