{"id":247400,"date":"2021-08-31T16:08:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-31T08:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/news-and-press-releases\/press-release\/detail\/52425-2\/"},"modified":"2021-09-20T12:57:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T04:57:48","slug":"52425","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/pt-pt\/news-and-press-releases\/press-release\/detail\/52425\/","title":{"rendered":"Nova tecnologia de nanozimas desenvolvida pela UM pode ajudar a melhorar a efic\u00e1cia da imunoterapia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n                        \n                        <p>A research team in the University of Macau\u2019s (UM)\nFaculty of Health Sciences (FHS), led by FHS Associate Professor Zhao Qi, has\ndeveloped a new nanozyme technology that can enhance the anti-tumour effects of\nchimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells by reshaping the tumour\nmicroenvironment. This technology can be used to improve the ability of the patient\u2019s\nown immune system to fight the tumour. The study has been published in the\nhigh-impact academic journal <i>Small<\/i>.<\/p><p>Adoptive cell therapy of engineered T cells with CARs\nrepresents an attractive and innovative strategy for cancer treatment. However,\nin solid tumours, one major obstacle limiting CAR T cell therapy is the tumour\nmicroenvironment (TME). Previous studies have reported that B7-H3 CAR cells\nbased on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) exhibited superior anti-tumour\neffects and inhibited tumour growth. However, B7-H3 CAR T cells partially eradicated\nsolid tumours.<\/p><p>This study is a breakthrough in the treatment of solid tumours\nwith CART cells. The team has found that one of the main obstacles limiting CAR\nT cell therapy is the tumour microenvironment (TME). Nanozymes exhibit merits\nmodulating the immunosuppression of the tumour milieu. The team adopted a\nsynergetic strategy by combining nanozymes and B7-H3 CAR T cells in solid tumours.\nThis nanozyme with dual photothermal-nanocatalytic properties is endowed to\nremodel TME by destroying its compact structure. The team has discovered that\nthe B7-H3 CAR T cells infused in mice engrafted with the NSCLC cells have\nsuperior anti-tumour activity after nanozyme ablation of the tumour. Moreover,\nthe changes altered immune-hostile cancer environment, resulting in enhanced\nactivation and infiltration of B7-H3 CAR T cells. This study clearly supports\nthat the TME-immunomodulated nanozyme is a promising tool to improve the\ntherapeutic obstacles of CAR T cells against solid tumours.<\/p><p>FHS\u2019s PhD student Zhu Lipeng is the first author of the\nstudy, and Prof Zhao Qi is the corresponding author. FHS professors Liu Tze-Ming\nand Dai Yunlu made important contributions to this study.
