A group of fourth-year students in the University of\nMacau (UM) Department of Communication recently won three awards for their graduation\npublications, namely UM Bridges Fall\n2019: SONDER<\/i>, and Communicator 2020:\nA Tale of Macau During Pandemic<\/i>, at the 2020 Campus Newspaper Awards organised\nby China Daily Hong Kong Edition. The former publication won a second prize in the\nBest in News Reporting (English Category) and a third prize in the Best in News\nWriting (English Category), while the latter publication won a third prize in\nLayout Design (Chinese Category).<\/p>
This year\u2019s event attracted participants from 43\nuniversities in the Greater China region, including Tsinghua University,\nNanjing University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist\nUniversity, UM, Fu Jen Catholic University, and Shih Hsin University, with over\n660 submissions from nearly 2,000 students. In the end, a jury comprised of 85\nscholars, professors, and journalism professionals from the Greater China region\nselected 76 prize winners in 24 categories.<\/p>
The publication Communicator\n2020: A Tale of Macau During Pandemic<\/i> was co-produced by 28 students in the\nDepartment of Communication, under the guidance of Dr Che Hio Ieong. The\npublication focuses on the role of Macao during the COVID-19 pandemic and\nillustrates the stories of people from all walks of life during that period.\nThe recipient of the third prize in the Layout Design (Chinese Category) is Cynthia\nLau.<\/p>
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>
The English publication UM Bridges Spring 2019: SONDER<\/i> was co-produced by 29 students under\nthe guidance of Prof Wu Mei in the Department of Communication. Students Erriss\nHo and Yulie Che used the new word \u2018sonder\u2019 as the topic for their interviews\nand feature stories \u2018Is Eating Less Meat Good for Your Body?\u2019 and \u2018The Habit:\nVisiting Museums\u2019, which won a second prize in the Best in News Reporting\n(English Category) and a third prize in the Best in News Writing (English\nCategory), respectively.<\/p>
