The University of Macau\n(UM) yesterday (9 January) held an inauguration ceremony for the Joint Laboratory\nof Aerospace Information, jointly established by UM and the Aerospace\nInformation Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).\nThe lab aims to integrate the\nresources of both institutions to carry out innovative\nresearch in satellite payload for remote sensing and the applications of\naerospace information.<\/p>
Yonghua Song, rector of UM,\nand Wu Yirong, president of the AIR, signed a collaboration agreement on behalf\nof both institutions. According to Song, over the past two decades since\nMacao\u2019s return to China, UM has received great support from the central\ngovernment in the establishment of state key laboratories and research centers as\nwell as in industry-academia collaboration. The relevant research fields have\nbeen highly recognised by the central and Macao SAR governments. He hopes that\nthis joint lab will further advance scientific research and the training of professionals\non both sides. Wu hopes that this collaboration opportunity will encourage more\nyoung professionals to devote themselves to the related research fields.<\/p>

After the ceremony, Wu gave\na lecture as part of the University Lecture Series, titled \u2018Aerospace\nInformation: A Natural Big Data Spatiotemporal Framework\u2019. During the talk, he discussed\nwhat constitutes aerospace information and the latest technologies in the field.\nHe focused on the concept of aerospace information as a big data carrier, the related\ntechnologies, and their industrial applications. The talk attracted many\nfaculty members and students.<\/p>
