Michael Chu Hong Lam, a first-year undergraduate\nstudent in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Faculty of Science and Technology,\nUniversity of Macau (UM), has been elected an undergraduate student\nrepresentative of the Membership Committee of the Institute of Electrical and\nElectronics Engineers (IEEE) Instrumentation and Measurement Society in a\nglobal election out of thousands of members around the world. Chu is the only one\nfrom Macao to be elected an undergraduate student representative of this\ncommittee.<\/p>
The IEEE Instrumentation and\nMeasurement Society serves as the professional incubator for the growth of all\n(particularly younger) members and is dedicated to developing and using\nelectrical and electronic instruments and equipment for measuring. The impact\nfactor of the society\u2019s journal is 3.067. The society also seeks to promote\ncollaboration and exchange among its members to push for excellence in the\narea. Currently, the society has more than 10,000 members, with about 50\nchapters and student braches worldwide. The committee is formed by professors\nand students at Xian Jiaotong University of China, the Missouri University of\nScience and Technology in the United States, the University of Sannio and the\nPolytechnic University of Turin in Italy, and RWTH Aachen University in\nGermany. As an undergraduate student representative, Chu will be responsible for assisting the society in formulating\nfuture development policies and developing award criteria.<\/p>
Since secondary school, Chu has\nparticipated in many competitions and won many awards, including a second prize\nat the IEEE RFID Flash Competition in 2019, a first prize at the 14th<\/sup>\nSoong Ching Ling Junior Invention Awards in 2018, a gold award at China\n(Shanghai) International Exhibition of Inventions, a silver award at VEX\nRobotics World Championship, a first prize at 2017 Guangdong, Hong Kong and\nMacao Robotics Elite Invitational Tournament, a gold award and the championship\nat Macau Tech Challenge 2017, a gold award at the 22nd<\/sup> National\nExhibition of Inventions as well as a special award from the Baowu group, a\nfirst prize and a third prize at the 15th<\/sup> Guangdong Youth Invention\nAward, and a gold award at Kaohsiung International Invention and Design EXPO.<\/p> \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p> Chu is a member of the Wireless\nCommunication Laboratory of the ECE, involved in studies of underwater\ncommunications, UAV wireless communication, and RFID measurement under the\nsupervision of Prof Tam Kam Weng.
