In accordance with the guidelines issued by the Higher\nEducation Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region (hereinafter\nreferred to as the SAR) and considering the actual circumstances of the\nUniversity of Macau (UM), the University has made the following teaching and\nlearning arrangements for students at different stages\nof their PhD degree, master\u2019s degree and postgraduate certificate\/diploma\nprogrammes:<\/p>
<\/p>
1.\nPhD and Master\u2019s Students at Oral Defence\nStage <\/p>
<\/p>
1.1\nPhD and master\u2019s oral defences will resume on 4 May.<\/p>
<\/p>
1.2\nStarting from 6 April, the PhD and master\u2019s students concerned may apply for conducting\noral defence to the Graduate School\nthrough\ntheir supervisors and faculty deans\/institute directors,\nand the applications will be subject to approval by the Vice Rector (Academic Affairs).<\/p>
<\/p>
1.3\nReturning to the Campus and the Postgraduate House (PGH)<\/p>
<\/p>
\u2022\nNon-PGH\nresidents<\/p>
–\nStudents who have obtained the approval for conducting oral defence and are\ncurrently in Macao should avoid going out or travelling between Macao and other\nregions. They should stay at home to prepare for their oral defences and must\nnot return to the campus before 4 May.<\/p>
– Starting from 13 April, students who have obtained the\napproval for conducting\noral defence and are currently not\nin Macao may gradually return to the SAR and undergo\nmedical observation in accordance with the requirements of the SAR. After\ncompleting the medical observation, they will need to stay in Macao to practice\nself-health management for 14 days, and should follow strictly all other\nanti-epidemic policies and guidelines of the SAR government and UM before they may return to the University.<\/p>
<\/p>
<\/p>
\u2022\nPGH residents<\/p>
– PGH residents who have obtained the\napproval for conducting oral defence\nand are currently in Macao should avoid going\nout or travelling between Macao and other regions. They should stay at home to\nprepare for their oral defences and must not\nreturn to the campus or the PGH before 4 May,\nexcept for those who are currently residing on campus.<\/p>
– Starting from 13 April, PGH residents who have obtained the\napproval for conducting oral defence\nand are currently not in Macao may gradually\nreturn to the SAR and undergo medical observation as required by the SAR. After\ncompleting the medical observation, they may return to the PGH and practice self-health management there\nfor 14 days in accordance with the UM requirements. Meanwhile, they should follow strictly all other\nanti-epidemic policies and guidelines of the SAR government and UM.<\/p>
<\/p>
\u2022 All PGH residents who\nhave obtained the approval for\nconducting oral defence should notify their residential\nhalls\nof their PGH-return\ndates in advance. They must complete the Personal Health Declaration before\nentering the PGH,\nand follow strictly all other anti-epidemic policies and guidelines of the SAR\ngovernment and UM.<\/p>
<\/p>
2. Students of PhD Degree, Master\u2019s Degree and\nPostgraduate Certificate\/Diploma Programmes at Coursework Stage<\/p>
<\/p>
2.1. Teaching and Learning <\/p>
\u2022 Distance\nlearning will continue for all these programmes until the end of the semester.\nStudents are not allowed to return to the University without authorisation.<\/p>
<\/p>
2.2. Exams <\/p>
\u2022\nExams will be postponed to the period between 20 May\nand 1 June. <\/p>
\u2022\nClass attendance will not be used as a factor for assessment.<\/p>
<\/p>
2.3. Grading System<\/p>
\u2022\nStudents may choose between the\noriginal grading system (i.e. the Letter Grades or the 20-Point Scales system)\nand the P\/NP (Pass\/Not Pass) Grades system for each course according to their\nown will. <\/p>
\u2022 Application details for a change of grading system\nwill be announced in mid-April.<\/p>
\u2022 5 May will be the application deadline.<\/p>
<\/p>
2.4. Withdrawal from\nIndividual Courses<\/p>
\u2022\nAll withdrawn courses will not appear on transcripts.<\/p>
\n3.\nPhD and Master\u2019s Students at Research Stage<\/p>
For master\u2019s and PhD students who are at research stage and need to\nreturn to the campus for special reasons, such as for their laboratory work and\nresearch, they should seek approval from the Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) through their\nsupervisors and faculty deans\/institute directors. Duly authorised students should also follow strictly all\nother anti-epidemic policies and guidelines of the SAR government and UM.<\/p>
<\/p>
4. Academic and Administrative Staff<\/p>
Academic staff should dynamically implement distance teaching\nand other arrangements for class resumption of the University during the rest\nof the semester. Administrative staff are required to actively support the\nteaching and research activities, and duly perform their administrative duties\nbefore and after class resumption.<\/p>
