\n\tThe University of Macau (UM) is a comprehensive university that follows international standards and strives for teaching excellence and research innovation. It has always been attaching great importance to postgraduate education. So far it has nurtured a large number of research professionals with outstanding performance and contributions in various fields. Yesterday (20 January) UM disclosed at a press conference regarding the new programmes and student recruitment plan for the 2010\/2011 academic year that this year it will launch two new master’s degree programmes and one revised bachelor’s degree programme to meet the needs of the constantly developing society. In addition, its bachelor’s degree programmes (recommended direct admission), master’s degree programmes, PhD degree programmes, and postgraduate certificate programmes for the 2010\/2011 academic year are now open for application, while bachelor’s degree programmes subject to admission exams will be open for application as of 8 February. <\/p>\n

\n\tUM Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Prof. Simon Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) Prof. Jacky Yuk-Chow So, Associate Dean (Curriculum & Teaching) of FBA Prof. Michael Joseph Gift, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSH) Prof. Hao Yufan, Head of the Department of Government and Public Administration of FSH Prof. Liu Bolong, and Prof. Doris Mok from the Department of Psychology of FSH attended the press conference. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the 2010\/2011 academic year UM will launch the following new programmes, namely Master of Science (Accounting) Programme, Master of Social Sciences (Clinical Psychology) Programme, and a new stream for the Bachelor of Social Science in Government and Public Administration Programme, namely International and Public Affairs. The Master of Science (Accounting) Programme, to be launched by the Faculty of Business Administration, aims to provide solid training in the principal areas of professional accounting so as to help students develop analytical skills in solving accounting-related problems; to provide significant knowledge in the latest international reporting standards, business ethics, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility; and to provide a springboard toward gaining first-class professional accounting qualifications such as Registered Accountant of Macao SAR, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification, and Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants (CPA Australia) qualification, etc.<\/div>\n

\n\tThe Master of Social Sciences (Clinical Psychology) Programme, to be launched by FSH, aims to provide training courses that meet international standards for bachelor’s graduates so as to nurture well-trained professionals specializing in clinical psychology to meet the needs of the Macao community. The courses will place equal emphasis on research and practice, with the overall objective of enhancing students’ knowledge and practical skills in clinical psychology.<\/div>\n

\n\tThe Department of Government and Public Administration of FSH will launch a new stream for its Bachelor of Social Science in Government and Public Administration Programme, namely International and Public Affairs. This new stream will mainly focus on the study of international affairs and will include such courses as International Relations Theory, International Political Economy, Chinese Foreign Policy, Sino-American Relations, and International Public Policy, etc. Students who enroll for the Government and Public Administration Programme are required to complete 12 general courses related to social science and general education during the first academic year. Afterwards the courses will be categorized into two streams, one is Public Administration and the other is International and Public Affairs. Students can receive separate bachelor’s degrees for these two streams upon graduation.<\/div>\n
\n\t <\/div>\n
\n\tThe bachelor’s degree programmes (recommended direct admission), master’s degree programmes, PhD degree programmes, and postgraduate certificate programmes are now open for application, with the deadline set for 31 March. The application deadline for bachelor’s degree programmes which are subject to admission exams is 3 March. Master’s degree and PhD degree programmes can offer different choices for individuals who aim for full-time or part-time further study. Applicants for full-time master’s degree programmes and full-time PhD degree programmes may apply for scholarships at a monthly amount of MOP7,500 and MOP9,500 respectively.
