The entry submitted by UM team is the single-phase adaptive hybrid filter, which integrates the advantages and characteristics of the traditional passive, active and hybrid filters, thus greatly reducing the initial cost and switching losses of the filter device. The proposed single-phase adaptive hybrid filter possesses reactive power and harmonic current compensation capability, and can help save energy and reduce harmonic pollution.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis year&rsquo;s Schneider Electric Energy Efficiency Cup, the third since its founding, aims to encourage engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs to participate in the development of innovative energy management solutions for a better future. The number of applications for this year&rsquo;s competition more than doubled that of last year. The five finalist teams, which were from the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong and the University of Macau, were required to do a 20-minute presentation illustrating their project designs. Projects competing for the championship included smart phone application in lifts, energy generation in toilets, use of double-glazed windows in buildings, water purification based on heat pump technology and single-phase adaptive hybrid filter. Eventually, UM team was selected to be the champion by a panel of judges consisting of famous university academics, representatives from engineering institutions and industry experts in the field of energy efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Schneider Electric Energy Efficiency Cup has the support of the Business Environment Council, the Energy Resources Management, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Hong Kong Association of Energy Engineers, the Analogue Technical Agencies Ltd., the Macao Institution of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and various local universities.<br
