An annual\nevent organised by the Hong Kong Younger Members Section of the Institution of\nEngineering and Technology, the competition aims to provide a platform for information\nexchange and to enhance the presentation skills of participating students and\nyoung engineers. More than 50 teams participated in this year\u2019s competition, whose\ntheme is \u201cInspiring Our Future\u201d. The panel of judges was composed of professors\nand veteran engineers. <\/p>\n\n
Johnny\u2019s\nproject, \u201cA Novel Electric Traction Railway Power Supply System Using Hybrid\nParallel Power Quality Conditioner\u201d, explores how the cost of manufacturing a power\nquality conditioner can be reduced by reducing the operating voltage of the\nconditioner. It is one of the research projects conducted by the Power\nElectronics Laboratory, with support from the Science and Technology\nDevelopment Fund of Macao SAR. The project has led to publication in two top\ninternational journals, \u201cIEEE Transactions on Power Electronics\u201dand\u201cIET power Electronics, as well as a\nconference paper. The project has applied two patents, one is from the United\nStates Patent and Trademark Office, and another national patent is from the\nState Intellectual Property Office of the People\u2019s Republic of China. <\/p>\n\nThe Institution of Engineering and Technology\n(IET) is committed to fostering an international engineering and technology community,\nas well as to sharing and advancing knowledge, with the purpose of improving the\nquality of life for people.
