A delegation of\nthe University of Macau (UM), headed by Rector Wei Zhao, recently visited the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs\nOffice (HMO) of the State Council in Beijing. The delegation met with Xu Ze,\ndeputy director of the HMO and briefed him on the latest progress of UM\u2019s new campus and the University\u2019s development\nplans. Xu noted that the central government had attached great importance to UM\u2019s\nnew campus, and that his Office would continue to render its support for UM\u2019s\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n\n
The delegation\nhad Liu Xiaohang and Xu Ting, head and deputy head of the Department of Culture\nand Education, Liaison Office of the Central People\u2019s Government in the Macao\nSAR (the Macao Liaison Office) as its advisors, and was accompanied by Hong Bo,\nhead of the Division of Education under the Macao Liaison Office. Also present\nat the meeting were Liu Wenda, deputy head of the Department of Liaison of HMO,\nWu Wei, deputy head of the Department of Exchange and Cooperation of HMO, and\nYou Yuan, head of the Division of Education, Science and Culture under the Department\nof Exchange and Cooperation of HMO.<\/p>\n\n
Xu said that the central government\nwas highly attentive to and concerned about UM\u2019s new campus project and future\ngrowth. Not only Macao citizens, but also people across the country, and many\noverseas institutions were paying close attention to UM\u2019s new campus.\nTherefore, he observed that Rector Zhao had a great mission on his shoulders,\nand trusted that Rector Zhao would do a good job in promoting UM\u2019s advancement.\nXu also pointed out that UM\u2019s new campus would face a series of new challenges\nand opportunities; his Office would continue to keep its support forthcoming\nfor UM\u2019s development on various fronts, while he was looking forward to the University\u2019s\npromising future. In response, Rector Zhao said that UM was steadfastly moving ahead\ntoward becoming a world-class university as expected by China\u2019s former president\nHu Jintao.<\/p>\n\n
The delegation then paid a visit to the Beijing\nOffice of the Macao Liaison Office, and was received by its head Qin Tieying,\nas well as Liu Xiaohang and Xu Ting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the UM delegation included Prof. Simon Ho, vice rector for\nacademic affairs, Prof. Shijian Mo, dean of Faculty of Law, Prof. Hao Yufan,\ndean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Philip Chen, dean of\nFaculty of Science and Technology, Prof. Wang Yitao, director of the Institute\nof Chinese Medical Sciences, and Ms Carol Wong, functional head of Mainland\naffairs of the Global Affairs Office.<\/p>\n\n
