Research\nin microelectronics has entered the world\u2019s top ten. Some of the academic\nprogrammes offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology and Faculty of\nBusiness Administration have received international recognition. Apart from\nmaking progress in teaching and research, the university has also successfully\ninvited many leaders in different fields to share experience and insights with\nthe students, including Nobel laureates Prof Chen Ning Yang and Prof Joseph E\nStiglitz, and one of the Chinese-speaking world\u2019s best known poets, Prof Yu\nKwang Chung. <\/p>\n\n
These\nachievements become more encouraging when viewed in the context of the new\ncampus. In August 2014, UM completed its relocation to the new campus. The new\ncampus brings new opportunities, but with new opportunities come new\nchallenges.<\/p>\n\n
Behind\nevery achievement the university has attained is years of tireless team effort.\nThis issue of umagazine <\/i>tells those\nbehind-the-scenes stories. Besides comprehensive reporting of the university\u2019s\nresearch achievements and future goals, this issue also features in-depth\ndiscussions on the various strategies for further improving the university\u2019s\nteaching and learning. <\/p>\n\n
Prof\nGe Wei cited an old Chinese saying, \u201cThe road is tortuous, but the future is\nbright,\u201d when talking about the future of the newly established Faculty of\nHealth Sciences. Perhaps this saying is also a fitting description of the\nfuture of the university. The road to achieving our goals is not always smooth\nand straight, but with confidence and joint effort, it is entirely possible to\nelevate the university to new heights of success. \n\n<\/p>
