During his stay at UM, President\nXi visited the University Gallery and one of the residential colleges and\nparticipated in the discussions of the students from that college. President Xi\npraised UM for its innovative university system and educational philosophy and\nencouraged the students to study diligently and strive to be better than their\nteachers. <\/p><p>President Xi and his entourage arrived\nat UM at around 3:30pm in the company of Macao SAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On.\nPresident Xi was warmly received by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of\nMacao SAR Tam Chon Weng, UM University Council Chair Lam Kam Seng, and UM\nRector Wei Zhao. This is the first time President Xi has visited UM\u2019s new\ncampus. Upon arrival, he first visited the University Gallery, where UM Rector\nWei Zhao told him about the master plan for the university, its history and\neducational philosophy, the research achievements of the two state key labs,\nand the rare ancient books housed in the university library. President Xi\npraised UM for the beautiful surroundings of the new campus and the many\ninnovations in university system and educational philosophy. \u201cWe will try our\nbest to make UM even better in the future so as to bring glory to Macao and\nChina,\u201d said Rector Wei Zhao. <\/p><p>Later President Xi visited one of\nthe residential colleges at UM, Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC). UM\u2019s Vice Rector\n(Student Affairs) Prof Haydn Chen told President Xi about the residential\ncollege system at UM, while CYTC Master Chung Ling talked about the facilities\nin the college.UM has established Asia\u2019s largest residential college system,\nwhich is modelled upon the successful experience of many of the world\u2019s top\nuniversities. Under this system, students from different majors live, dine and\nstudy together in the RCs. During President Xi\u2019s visit, some students of the CYTC\nhappened to be having a discussion about traditional Chinese culture and\ncontemporary youth. President Xi participated in the discussion and remarked on\nthe impact of Chinese culture on Macao. He also encouraged the students to\nstudy diligently, strive to be better than their teachers, and put what they\nlearn to good use. Finally, President Xi presented two sets of books, namely <i>Rare Local Chronicle Series Housed in Peking\nUniversity Library<\/i> and <i>The Yongle<\/i> <i>Encyclopedia<\/i> (reprint), to UM as presents.
