Prof Tu Guangjian from the University of Macau\u2019s\n(UM) Faculty of Law recently received a second prize (the first-place winner at\nthis level) in the Excellent Academic Achievement Award category from the\nChinese Society of Private International Law, for his paper titled \u2018Forum non\nConveniens in the People’s Republic of China\u2014Revisited\u2019. This is the second time\nProf Tu has won this award since last year.<\/p>
Prof Tu\u2019s paper discusses whether a Chinese court\nshould decline a foreign-related case when it has adjudicatory jurisdiction over\nthe case according to Chinese law. The paper systematically reviews and analyses\nChinese courts’ practices in typical cases over the past two decades, having identified\nthe future trend, and proposed suggestions for future improvement. The author\u2019s\nviews presented in the paper have been reflected in the latest Interpretation of\nthe Chinese Civil Procedure Law released by the Supreme People’s Court in early\n2015. The Chinese version of the paper was originally published in the International Law Review of Wuhan University\n<\/i>and then re-published by the Information Centre for Social Sciences at\nRenmin University of China.<\/p>
Prof Tu\u2019s paper was selected by the Chinese Society\nof Private International Law among papers submitted by scholars from mainland\nChina, Hong Kong, and Macao. Prof Tu won the prize for the first time last year\nfor his paper titled \u2018Arrangement on Mutual Recognition and Enforcement of\nJudgments in Civil and Commercial Matters between China and Macau: Inherent\nProblems, Six Years\u2019 Experience and the Way Forward\u2019. The two award-winning\npapers are among Prof\u2019s Tu\u2019s nine papers published in SSCI journals.<\/p>
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlso, Prof Tu has been recently appointed as the convener\nof the Special Commission on\nInter-regional Conflict Laws of the Chinese Society of Private International\nLaw, responsible for convening commission members from mainland China, Hong\nKong, Macao, and Taiwan to study specific issues related to inter-regional\nconflict of laws. This special commission conducts research on inter-regional\nconflict of laws, with the hope of promoting legal and economic integration among\nthe four regions. This appointment shows recognition of Prof Tu as an academic\nleader in the field among the four regions.<\/p>
