The University of Macau (UM) has launched a series of\ntraining courses for owners and employees of small- and medium-sized\nenterprises (SMEs) in Macao to help these businesses survive the economic\nimpact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The six courses in the first, second, and\nthird batches were very well received and the quotas were quickly filled. UM is\nnow launching two new SME training courses, namely Big Data and Technology\nInnovation, as well as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and Smart\nCity. Both courses were originally priced at MOP 3, 900, and are now offered\nfor free. They will be open for registration from 3 June to 9 June.<\/p>
These courses focus on how SMEs can apply new technologies in\ntheir daily operation. They are co-organised by UM\u2019s Faculty of Science and\nTechnology (FST), State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City\n(SKL-IoTSC), and Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). The FST and the\nSKL-IoTSC have strong research capacity and have been serving the local\ncommunity with first-class academic programmes and cutting-edge research, while\nthe CCE is dedicated to providing quality training courses and teaching support\nservices for the general public. Through these two courses, UM hopes to help\nSME owners and employees learn more about the latest trends in technology and\nhow they can apply the new technologies to improve their thinking skills and\nmake better business decisions. The courses will also discuss the SAR\ngovernment\u2019s plan to develop Macao into a smart digital city and how going\nhigh-tech might be the way forward for SMEs against this backdrop.<\/p>
The course \u2018Big Data and Technology Innovation\u2019 will teach participants\nhow to use database management tools and data analysis methods, as well as how\nto apply big data in marketing, through case studies. The other course, titled \u2018Artificial\nIntelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Smart City\u2019, will discuss how\nAI and IoT can drive the development of traditional industries and promote economic\ndiversification and sustainable development in Macao. Covering topics such as\nsmart city development, smart energy, smart transport, smart coastal city development,\nand disaster prevention and control, the course aims to help SME owners and\nemployees learn more about Macao\u2019s development trends so they can make better business\ndecisions.<\/p>

The training courses will be open for registration from 3\nJune to 9 June. They will begin on 16 June and are expected to be completed in\nearly July. Quotas are limited, and applications will be processed on a\nfirst-come-first-served basis. Macao identity card holders who are working in a\nSME (proof of employment is required for registration) will be given priority\nfor admission.
