The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater\nBay Area Forum on Regional Economy, Logistics and Tourism: Prospects and\nOpportunities, co-organised\nby the University of Macau (UM) Asia Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM) and Faculty of\nBusiness Administration (FBA), was held at UM today (27 October). The forum attracted more\nthan 100 experts and scholars, UM faculty members and students, as well as\nmembers of the general public. The forum featured three sessions, which were focused on\nregional economy and logistics, investment, and tourism, respectively. During\nthe expert panels, participants discussed how to deepen links among the three\nregions, how to develop the regions\u2019 potential, and how to increase mutual\ndevelopment and collaboration within the area. <\/p>
In July 2017, the National Development and\nReform Commission, the People\u2019s Government of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong\nSAR government, and the Macao SAR government signed the Framework Agreement on\nDeepening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Co-operation in the Development of the Bay\nArea, which marked the establishment\nof a mutually complementary collaborative\nrelationship aimed at promoting the development of the Guangdong-Hong\nKong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Prof Jacky So, director of the APAEM and dean of the\nFBA, mentioned in his welcome speech that the long-standing collaborative\nrelationship among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the Greater Bay Area\u2019s competitive\nadvantages in manufacturing, financial, and servicing sectors, as well as its well-developed\ntransport and logistic infrastructure, will combine to help develop the area into a\nnew pivot for international trade and economic collaboration, and will accelerate\neconomic growth for the regions and enhance the development of the Belt and\nRoad Initiative.<\/p>
Keynote speakers at the forum included Mr Wang Jie, president of Yamato (China) Transport\nCo, Ltd; Prof Terrence Chong, executive director of Lau\nChor Tak Institute of Global Economics and Finance and associate professor of economics\nat the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Mr Chen Chuangqian, Chief Representative of Hong\nKong and Macao Affairs, Public Policy Department, Tencent; Ms Victoria\nMio, co-head of Asia Pacific Equities and chief investment officer of China,\nRobeco; Mr Yong Kwek Ping, director of the Greater China\nCentre for Private Equity of UM and CEO of Inventis Investment Holdings; Mr Chen\nWenjie, president of the CTS Academy for Tourism Industry, China National\nTravel Service Group Corporation; and\nProf Qu Xiao, associate professor of the School\nof Hotel and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.<\/p>
