The Guangdong-Hong\nKong-Macao University Alliance today (10 July) held its fourth Annual Meeting\nand Presidents\u2019 Forum online. More than 100 people from the Guangdong-Hong\nKong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including university heads and representatives\nfrom 40 universities as well as experts and scholars, participated in the\nonline event and had in-depth discussions on how to continue to promote\ncollaborative innovation and education development in the Greater Bay Area (GBA)\nduring the post-pandemic period. An alliance for smart university campuses in\nthe GBA was also established during the event.<\/p>
It is the first time the\nalliance has held its annual meeting online. The theme of this year’s meeting was\n\u2018Marching Forward Amidst Difficulties\u2019. At the opening ceremony, Rocky Tuan,\nvice chancellor and president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, gave a\nwelcome speech. Other distinguished guests who also spoke at the event include Xu\nYongji, deputy managing director of the Department of International Cooperation\nand Exchanges, Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Ministry of\nEducation; Jiang Jianxiang, director of the Department of Education, Science\nand Technology of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the\nHong Kong SAR; Zhu Chaohua, deputy director of the Department of Education of\nGuangdong Province; Chang Kun Hong, deputy director of the Higher Education\nBureau of Macao; Choi Yuk Lin, deputy director of the Education Bureau of Hong\nKong; and Luo Jun, president of the alliance and president of Sun Yat-sen\nUniversity.<\/p>
This year’s presidents\u2019\nforum was composed of two parts. The theme of the first part, chaired by Rocky\nTuan, was \u2018how the alliance continues to promote collaborative innovation in\nthe GBA during the post-pandemic period\u2019. The theme of the second part, chaired\nby Yonghua Song, was \u2018how the alliance continues to promote education\ndevelopment in the GBA during the post-pandemic period\u2019. Rector Song said at\nthe forum that the continued development of the alliance can not be realised\nwithout opening up to the outside world. He thanked university heads for\nproviding suggestions for collaborative innovation and education development in\nthe GBA. <\/p>

Established in 2016, the\nuniversity alliance was initiated by UM, Sun Yat-sen University, and CUHK. Sun\nYat-sen University serves as the chair of the alliance while UM and CUHK serve\nas the vice chairs. So far, 40 universities in the GBA have joined the\nalliance. Its member universities hold academic forums and exchange activities\non a regular basis to promote collaboration in scientific research and\ntechnological innovation, in order to nurture outstanding talent for the area.\nThis year\u2019s forum was supported by the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan\nAffairs, Ministry of Education; the Department of Education of the Guangdong\nprovince; Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, the People\u2019s Government of\nGuangdong Province; the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong\nProvince; the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong; the\nEducation Bureau of Hong Kong; the Liaison Office of the Central People’s\nGovernment in Macao; and the Higher Education Bureau of Macao\n\n<\/p>
