{"id":148810,"date":"2015-12-11T18:31:17","date_gmt":"2015-12-11T18:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/sem-categoria\/2015\/12\/36378-pt_pt\/"},"modified":"2020-11-26T20:47:40","modified_gmt":"2020-11-26T12:47:40","slug":"36378","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/pt-pt\/news-and-press-releases\/campus-news\/detail\/36378\/","title":{"rendered":"Col\u00e9gio Residencial Parte III, Col\u00e9gios Resid\u00eanciais , Onde n\u00f3s Aprendemos e crescemos"},"content":{"rendered":"Source:&nbsp;<i style=\"font-family:'Palatino Linotype', 'Book Antiqua', Palatino, Arial;font-size:14px;font-stretch:normal;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.umac.mo\/umagazine\/issue13\/\">umagazine<\/a><\/i><div><p>The Residential Colleges (RC) is a place where we learn and grow.\nParticipating in the various activities and student organisations in the RC has\nbroadened my horizons and taught me many skills.<\/p>\n\n<p><b>Participating in the Creation of a Brand <\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>I am a member of the Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College\u2019s Healthy Living Team, which was founded and led by Dr Natalie Wong, a\nresident fellow of the college. Under Dr Wong\u2019s\nguidance, we created our own brand, selling environmentally-friendly natural\nproducts such as natural lip balms and natural mosquito repellent. Joining the\nteam not only taught me production and marketing skills but also increased my\nenvironmental awareness and introduced me to the benefits of a low-carbon\nlifestyle.<\/p>\n\n<p><b>Reaping Friendships In Return <\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>I joined the House Association in my second year of study. The association\nis dedicated to serving college members in various ways, such as organising new\nstudent orientations, talent shows, and leadership camps. The process of\nserving other college members made me feel that our college is really like one\nbig, warm family. I also formed friendships with many students, which are a\npriceless gift to myself.<\/p>\n\n<p><b>Exposure to Different Cultures <\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>The High Table\nDinner is an important part of the learning experience. It provides RC students\nwith the opportunity to learn dining etiquette and know more about one another.\nHowever, face-to-face interaction with college fellows is just one of the many\nbenefits of the High Table Dinner. It also exposes us to different cultures,\nwhich I find very exciting. At one High Table Dinner, a student chatted with a\ncollege fellow from South Africa, and successfully invited the fellow to\npresent a lecture about South Africa for college members.<\/p>\n\n<p><b>Discovering Interests <\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>The Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) once organised an\nArtist-in-Residence Programme, which aimed to help college members discover\ntheir interests and strengths and to provide an opportunity for students to\nhave face-to-face interaction with various artists. I realised through this programme\nthat artists are not born with inspiration and creativity; their inspiration\nand creativity are the product of constant learning, experiencing, observing,\nand thinking.<\/p>\n\n<p><b>Gaining Practical Experience outside the\nClassroom <\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>The RC is also a place where students broaden their horizons. In addition\nto artists, the HFPJC has been visited by students from Thailand and Australia,\nOlympic champions, and senior business executives. In addition, it arranges\noutgoing visits to different schools and organisations to help us see more of\nthe world and gain practical experience outside the classroom<\/p>\n\n<p><b>Why I Love the RC <\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>The RC is a place where college members develop deep friendships with one\nanother. We can get together in the dining hall to eat and talk, or watch\nmovies together in the Learning Commons. If someone needs help, others are\nalways happy to give a hand. If a member of a university team or the Students\u2019 Union has a match or an event, we would show up to give support.
