The journal Random Matrices: Theory and Applications<\/i>, co-edited by Prof Yang\nChen from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology\n(FST), University of Macau (UM) and Prof Zhidong Bai from the Northeast Normal\nUniversity, China, and published by World Scientific, was indexed in the\nScience Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E). The journal has a First Impact Factor of\n1.351 in 2016.<\/p>\n\n
\u2018The indexation of the journal is\nconsidered the reflection of its quality. It also indicates the importance of\nthe publication is being increasingly recognised by the academic institutions,\u2019\nsays Prof Chen. \u2018The SCI is a citation index originally produced by the\nInstitute for Scientific Information (ISI) and its larger version SCI-E covers\nmore than 6,500 notable and significant journals, from 1900 to the present.\nThese are alternatively described as the world’s leading journals of science\nand technology, because of a rigorous selection process.\u2019<\/p>\n\n
Random matrix theory put forward\nby EP Wigner, the Jones Professor of Mathematical Physics of the Princeton\nUniversity in 1950s for the interpretation of the observed energy level of\nheavy nuclei together with the fundamental contributions from Freeman Dyson,\nMadan Lal Mehta, Estelle Basor, Craig Tracy, Harold Widom, Pierre Van Moerebeke\nand Dan-virgil Voiculescu has grown into a discipline which encompasses areas\nof pure mathematics: complex analysis, operator theory, non-commutative\nprobability, and applied mathematics: multi-variate statistics, integrable\nsystems, information theory of wireless communication systems.<\/p>\n\n
Prof Chen is a theoretical\nphysicist and has devoted in the research field of random matrix theory for\nmore than 20 years. His research interests include random matrix theory,\northogonal polynomials and special functions, painleve transcendents and\nintegrable systems, random matrices applied to wireless communications and\nmoduli spaces in QCD, and asymptotic theory of large random matrices. Chen has collaborated with mathematicians and\nengineers to work on a variety of problems that show up in information theory\nof wireless communication systems, and certain combinatorial problems in String\nTheory.<\/p>
