The University of Macau (UM) held five separate award\nceremonies in three consecutive days between November 11 to November 13 as part of the Scholarship Presentation\nCeremony 2020. During the ceremonies, the university presented scholarships and\nacademic prizes to 351 students for their outstanding academic performance.<\/p>
UM Rector Yonghua Song congratulated the students and\nthanked the donors of the scholarships and academic prizes. According to him,\nUM has been actively participating in the development of the country, the\nGreater Bay Area, and Macao in recent years. In 2019, the university built its\nfirst industry-academia base in the Greater Bay Area via the Zhuhai UM Science\nand Technology Research Institute, which was followed by the establishment of\nthe Centre for Artificial Intelligence, the Centre for Regional Oceans, and the\nInstitute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences. These projects\naim to form a strategic research layout and promote industry-academia\ncollaboration and technology transfer. In terms of international partnerships,\nUM continuously expands its collaboration with mainland and overseas\nuniversities, offering dual and joint degree programmes and establishing joint\nlaboratories and national-level research platforms, in order to enhance the\nuniversity\u2019s teaching quality and international competitiveness and promote\ndiversification and sustainable development of higher education in Macao.<\/p>
To encourage students to strive for excellence, UM\noffered more than 60 scholarships and academic prizes in the past year. In the\n2019\/2020 academic year, UM received a total of MOP 4 million in academic\nprizes and scholarships from more than 50 institutions and individuals. These\nacademic prizes and scholarships were awarded to more than 400 students at the\nuniversity\u2019s major events, including the scholarship presentation ceremony and\nthe convocation ceremony.<\/p>

At the recent ceremonies, 351 UM students received\nscholarships worth a total of over MOP 3.3 million, donated by more than 40\ninstitutions and individuals.
