The University of Macau (UM) held five separate award ceremonies in three consecutive days between November 11 to November 13 as part of the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2020. During the ceremonies, the university presented scholarships and academic prizes to 351 students for their outstanding academic performance.

UM Rector Yonghua Song congratulated the students and thanked the donors of the scholarships and academic prizes. According to him, UM has been actively participating in the development of the country, the Greater Bay Area, and Macao in recent years. In 2019, the university built its first industry-academia base in the Greater Bay Area via the Zhuhai UM Science and Technology Research Institute, which was followed by the establishment of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, the Centre for Regional Oceans, and the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences. These projects aim to form a strategic research layout and promote industry-academia collaboration and technology transfer. In terms of international partnerships, UM continuously expands its collaboration with mainland and overseas universities, offering dual and joint degree programmes and establishing joint laboratories and national-level research platforms, in order to enhance the university’s teaching quality and international competitiveness and promote diversification and sustainable development of higher education in Macao.

To encourage students to strive for excellence, UM offered more than 60 scholarships and academic prizes in the past year. In the 2019/2020 academic year, UM received a total of MOP 4 million in academic prizes and scholarships from more than 50 institutions and individuals.
