As a part of the traditional Chinese culture, the ‘dragon culture’ is of great value to contemporary research in this field. Faculty members and students in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, University of Macau (UM), recently collected and compiled materials related to the traditional dragon culture and donated them to the university’s library.

The donated materials include about 600 digital images and videos, as well as more than ten books and posters. These are first-hand materials and cover various dragon dance events, including events at the Festival of the Drunken Dragon and the Wushu Masters Challenge in Macao, the fire dragon dance in Pok Fu Lam Village in Hong Kong, and the Johor Old Chinese Temple Chingay Parade in Malaysia. The UM Library plans to set up a database to store these materials, which will be accessible to all users worldwide.

The research group is led by Emeritus Professor Zheng Dehua in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, and other members of the research group include Associate Professor Tam Mei Leng, Dr Ma Wancham, as well as students Yang Lanya, Ng Hou Man, Lei Wang Chon, and Chu Ngai Peng.
