A paper co-authored by five master’s students from the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Macau (UM), recently received an Outstanding Paper Award at a symposium organised by an alliance for journalism and communication in mainland China for postgraduate students and young scholars.

The award-winning students are Xiao Qian, Liang Fengxin, Zhao Xiaotong, Yang Zhixi, and Ye Mingxi. Titled ‘How Do College Students Receive the Greater Bay Area (GBA)? A Quantitative Study of Openness, News Trust and GBA Recognition’, the paper discusses the relationships between openness and experience, news trust, and students’ recognition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). This study also provides suggestions from a new perspective on how to encourage professionals to develop their careers in the GBA.

The alliance consists of the School of Journalism of Fudan University, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication of the Communication University of China, the Department of Media and Communication of the City University of Hong Kong; the Graduate Institute of Journalism of Taiwan University, the College of Communication of Fu Jen Catholic University, and the Department of Communication of UM. Themed ‘News Communication Education and Talent Cultivation in the Context of Media Convergence’, this year’s symposium provided a platform for postgraduate students of journalism and communication to exchange ideas and showcase their academic achievements.
