The University of Macau (UM) today (8 November) held a lecture titled ‘The Future of Robotics: The Tri-Co (Coexisting-Cooperative-Cognitive) Robots’ as part of the University Lecture Series. Ding Han, an expert in mechatronic engineering, was the keynote speaker. He discussed the latest technologies in robotics, processing systems for robots, data engine, and new trends in the field.

UM Rector Yonghua Song delivered a speech, in which he said robotics technologies are widely used in such areas as manufacturing, natural resource exploration, disaster relief, medical service, and home entertainment. Some experts believe that in the future, smart robots will be able to naturally interact with the work environment and communicate with human operators as well as other robots. Eventually, they can develop into tri-co robots, with the ability to adapt to new situations in order to complete complicated tasks.

During the talk, Ding shared his experiences in robotics research and discussed how the advanced technologies could provide assistance to high-end manufacturing. The talk attracted many faculty members and students from UM, as well as teachers and students from local high schools.
