Lao Ngai Leong, an honorary doctor of the University of Macau (UM) and a business leader, today (10 April) gave a talk at UM titled ‘Strategic Opportunities and Challenges in Macao under “Belt and Road Initiative” and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’. The event attracted many UM members, secondary school teachers, students, and prominent community members.

In his speech, Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Lionel Ni said that Lao made significant contributions to social and charity services in Macao and mainland China. For this reason, he received the Medal of Merit – Industry and Commerce from the Macao SAR government in 2008 and the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences honoris causa from UM last year.

Lao pointed out that this year marks the sixth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative; it is also the first year when the outline of the strategies for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has been implemented. During the talk, he shared his views on the strategic opportunities and challenges for Macao in the context of these two strategies, and exchanged ideas with the audience on Macao’s talent development strategy.
