The Scientific Research Projects Result Exhibition and Academic Report in Year of 2017, organised by the SAR government’s Science and Technology Development Fund, opened today (8 January) at the University of Macau (UM). Of the 80 research projects exhibited at the event, 48 of them come from UM, which accounts for more than half of the total number of projects in the exhibition.

During the event, Rector Yonghua Song gave a keynote speech titled ‘Harmonising Fluctuating Renewable Energy and Flexible Demand Resources: A Smart Grid Solution in Deregulated Environment’. Prof Wan Jianbo and Dr Lin Ligen from UM’s Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) each gave a presentation, titled ‘Role of Tissue n-6/ n-3 Fatty Acid Ratio in Alcoholic and Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver’ and ‘Adipose Tissue Inflammation Mediates High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)-induced Insulin Resistance’, respectively, in the life science session. Wang Yitao, director of the ICMS, and Prof Zheng Ying from the institute, each gave a presentation, titled ‘Establishment and Optimisation of Key Technologies for Systematic Screening of Chinese Medicine Based on Multi-Targets Property’ and ‘Solid State Characterisation of Poorly Water-Soluble Active Components in Chinese Medicine’, respectively, in the Chinese medicine session.

In addition, Prof Mok Seng Peng from UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and Faculty of Health Sciences, gave a presentation titled ‘Multi-purpose Multi-pinhole SPECT (MPMPSPECT): Direct Translational Platform for High Performance Clinical and Preclinical Molecular Imaging’ in the information and technology session. Yuen Ka Veng, registrar of UM, who is also the interim dean of the FST; Wong Pak Kin, associate dean of the FST; as well as Prof Zhou Wanhuan from the faculty, each gave a presentation, titled ‘On the Online Identification for Structural Health Monitoring’, ‘Single Point Incremental Forming for Biomedical Applications’, and ‘The Load Transfer and Deformation Mechanism of Geosynthetic Reinforced Pile Supported Embankment’, respectively, in the engineering and material technology session.
