The University of Macau (UM) today (28 December) held an opening ceremony for the Man Lung Garden. UM Rector Yonghua Song and Wu Yee Sun Charitable Foundation Limited’s representative Wu Po Ko officiated at the ceremony. The garden houses pots of Penjin planted by Dr Wu Yee Sun, the founder of the Wing Lung Bank in Hong Kong, who is also an expert of Penjing.

In his speech, Song said that Dr Wu spared no effort to promote the Chinese art form of Penjing at home and abroad. He added that the Man Lung Garden, UM Wu Yee Sun Library, and Wu Ho Man Yuen Health Resources Centre are all testament to Wu Yee Sun Charitable Foundation’s generous donations to UM and support to higher education development. Song expressed hope that UM faculty members, students, scholars, and visitors to UM will visit the garden and learn to cultivate inner peace amidst the chaos of their busy lives.

The Penjing pieces in the garden take different shapes and styles. Some are modest, classic and elegant. Some are refined miniatures with a profound artistic concept. Some of them look robust and exotic while some are exquisite and unrestrained. All are welcome.
