The University of Macau (UM) and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority signed a strategic collaboration agreement on promoting technological innovations. According to the agreement, both parties will jointly carry out research projects to advance transport technology. They also plan to jointly establish a research centre for engineering technology. Both parties will deepen collaboration on the operation and maintenance of large-scale transport infrastructure and will increase the exchange of scientific research data and results, in order to promote technological advances in transport infrastructure.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the first large-scale transport infrastructure project jointly developed by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The bridge authority completed the construction of the bridge and has rich experience in construction projects and collaborative research in the three places. UM is an internationally renowned university, with a strong research capacity. With the intellectual support of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, the collaboration will allow both parties to combine their strengths to create a win-win situation in the operation and maintenance of the bridge as well as in advancing transport technology. As the first large-scale smart transport infrastructure project in mainland China, the bridge is expected to serve as a model of regional collaboration in scientific research and to promote the development of the Greater Bay Area.

According to the agreement, UM will participate in collaborative projects that mainly involve the operation and maintenance of large-scale transport infrastructure projects, smart transport systems based on the Internet of Things, public security surveillance, and disaster prevention and management. Both parties will jointly promote technology transfer for related research results in mainland China and will share experiment data, methods, and research results for research and teaching purposes.
