Three members of the University of Macau (UM) Portuguese Debating Team placed third at the Eighth Portuguese Debate Competition for Higher Education Institutions in China and Asia. 

The three winning students from the Portuguese Debating Team are Tang Jiaxuan, a second-year student from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) and a member of Cheng Yu Tung College and the Honours College (HC); Heng Yi, a fourth-year student from the FAH and a member of Lui Che Woo College and the HC; and Leong Kin Man, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Law and a member of Choi Kai Yau College.

The champion and the first runner-up are Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Beijing Foreign Studies University, respectively. Nine other universities participated in this year’s competition, which was held at Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM), namely Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, Dalian University of Foreign Languages, Beijing International Studies University, Fujian Normal University, Macau University of Science and Technology, IPM, Shanghai International Studies University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Vietnam National University.
