Prof Shigefumi Mori, a world-renowned mathematician and the 1990 recipient of the Fields Medal, known as the ‘Nobel Prize of Mathematics’, today (2 June) gave the first lecture of the University Lecture Series, titled ‘Algebraic Geometry – How I Became Fond of It’, at the University of Macau (UM). Prof Mori was joined by UM Vice President (Academic Affairs) Prof Lionel Ni and Visiting Chair Professor Cao Huaidong in a discussion of the beauty of algebraic geometry. The talk attracted a full-house audience, including faculty members, university students, and secondary students. In his speech, UM Rector Wei Zhao expressed his gratitude to Prof Mori for being the first speaker of the University Lecture Series.
