To provide an opportunity for the people from different walks of life and high school graduates to learn the latest development of the University of Macau (UM) and the academic programmes offered by UM and to strengthen the liaison between the alumni and the University, UM is going to organize an Open Day on 8 and 9 March. Activities include exhibitions, lectures, student performances, alumni activities, English workshops, mock hearings, sports activities, debates, booth games and souvenir distribution. To let visitors learn more about the campus life, teaching facilities and dormitories will also be open.

Many seminars are arranged during the Open Day. There will be “The Application of Hypnosis Therapy to Sleep Obstacles” given by the President of the American Hypnosis Therapy Association at 14:00; “Economics in Daily Lives” given by Dr. Ho Wai Hong from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at 14:30; “Open Forum for Reflection upon the Nude Picture Scandal” at 15:00; and “Triathlon Experience in Macau” given by the former coach of Macau Triathlon Team at 16:00 on 8 March. On 9 March, there will be talks given by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Registry of UM on study loans and scholarships provided by the Government and scholarships of UM, and the “Gaming Management Seminar – The Gaming Management Program at the Faculty of Business Administration and the Career Development of the Gaming Majors” given by the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming at 11:00; “Admission Briefing for UM’s Master’s Degree Programmes” at 12:00; and two health reading talks at 14:30 and 15:30 respectively.

Booths and exhibition panels are set up for the following: Introduction to UM’s Academic Units, Book Exhibition on “Health and Environmental Protection”, Students’ Final Year Project Exhibition, Workshop on “TOEFL Preparation”, Creative Workshop, Introduction to Online Learning, and other booth games. For the convenience of the applicants, there are also booths for registration and payment of the entry fee for UM’s degree programmes. Besides, academic buildings, laboratories, computer rooms, the mock courtroom, the gymnasium, the University Library and the East Asian Hall will be open. Visitors can get a better picture of the development and achievement UM obtained in recent years through the explanations from the staff stationing at the above locations.

UM students will put on various activities during the period, including Cantonese, Mandarin and English debates, choir and bass band performances, dramas, various sports activities (tennis trial, fencing demo, martial art performance, rock climbing trial, squash trial, boxing demo and karate demo), various artistic activities (dancing and piano performance as well as calligraphy demo) and a cooking competition. Videos produced by the students in the Department of Communications and the videos taken in the Public Speaking class will also be broadcasted.

Alumni activities include campus tours and experience sharing sessions with present students and among UM’s alumni associations in various places. The alumni can also take part in the sports activities with the staff and students.

UM Open Day will be held from 14:30 to 17:30 on 8 March and from 10:00 to 17:00 on 9 March. All visitors will have souvenirs. The car parks on campus will be open to the public during the said period. For more information, please visit the website www.umac.mo.
