The agreement was signed by Prof. Norimasa Maeda, Secretary General of Teikyo University Group, and Prof. Iu Van Pan, Rector of UM. The signing ceremony was witnessed by representatives of both universities, including Mr. Okada Mitsushi, Mrs. Miyamoto Teiko, and Mr. Miyamato Ko from Teikyo University; and Prof. Hao Yufan, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Maria Antónia Nicolau Espadinha, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Glenn Timmermans, Head of the Department of English, and Mr.Kazuyoshi Noguchi, Director of the Centre for Japanese Studies, from the University of Macau.

Secretary General Norimasa Maeda introduced that, founded in 1966, Teikyo University consists of nine faculties and more than 20,000 students at present. Every year, Teikyo University welcomes around 1,000 exchange students from all over the world to study in its undergraduate programmes, graduate programmes and Japanese language courses. He pointed out that, since there have not been any exchange students from Macao before, the unprecedented agreement on the student exchange programme between UM and Teikyo University is regionally encouraging. He showed his warmest welcome to UM’s excellent students to participate in this programme.

The Centre for Japanese Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UM, has been dedicated to prompting academic collaboration and student exchange programmes between UM and Japanese universities for years. Besides Teikyo University, UM has established long-term student exchange agreements with Keio University, Sophia University, Akita International University, Soka University, J. F. Oberlin University, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, Shigakukan University and Okinawa International University. Every year, the Centre for Japanese Studies sends out about fifteen students for a One-year Exchange Programme at its partner universities in Japan. Moreover, one student will be awarded a scholarship offered by the Ministry of Education of the Japanese Government for the one-year study in Japan. Aside from the student exchange programme, in summer, nearly 50 students from UM will go to Japan for a short-term cultural experience.
