Hu Yuanjia, a PhD student of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences of the University of Macau (UM), will go to Austria for advanced research with the support of the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Scholarship. He is the first student in Macao and one of the five students in the HK-Macao region receiving this scholarship.

Hu Yuanjia has achieved this scholarship with his research project on “An Exploration into Pharmaceutical Patent Valuation: Some Empirical Evidence”. This project innovatively introduces pharmaceutical technological indicators to traditional patent valuation model, finds the key role of New Chemical Entity, New Dosage Form, and Patent Challenge on early-stage valuation of pharmaceutical patents, and optimizes traditional patent valuation model.

The Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Scholarship, financed by the Austrian Ministry of Culture, Education and Research, was founded in 2000 to promote cooperation between the countries in the Central Asia, the East Asia and the Pacific region. Its goal is to support academic exchanges between its members of more than 100 universities through providing doctoral and post-doctorial scholarships, research projects and summer programmes.

Hu Yuanjia will go to the Austrian Research Centers for an eight-month study this August. The Centers have an overall faculty of 1200 in 14 different branches and a yearly budget of more than 100 million for research and operation. During his stay in Austria, Hu will work with Prof. Josef Fröhlich of the Centers to study an innovative technology and valuation method to be applied to Chinese Medicine research. Prof. Josef Fröhlich is a well-known expert in the technical field and it is upon his recognition of the value of the research project that Hu Yuanjia’s scholarship application has been approved by the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet.

Hu Yuanjia pointed out that his studies in the Austrian Research Centers will be an invaluable experience, giving him an opportunity to learn innovative technology of Chinese Medicine from top international scholars, to expand his international vision and to gain international experience.
