Professor Rui Martins, Vice Rector (Research) of the University of Macau (UM), was appointed as the Vice President of IEEE CAS Society for Region 10 (Asia-and-Pacific), for the period between 2009 and 2010. Dr. Elvis Pui-In Mak from the Faculty of Science and Technology of UM was also selected to join the first Board of Governors (BoG) of the Society, in his capacity of GOLD (Graduate of Last Decade) member for Region 10, for the period between 2009 and 2011. This situation is rarely met in global associations in the field of top technology; it represents UM’s academics have occupied a pivotal position in international associations.

Furthermore, Professor Rui Martins was also appointed APCCAS 2008 General Chair. The APCCAS is a major international forum established by the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, in its Region 10 usually referred as the Asia-Pacific Region, for scholars, scientists, educators, students and engineers to exchange their latest findings in Circuits and Systems (CAS). The ninth biennial IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems 2008 (APCCAS 2008) will be held in Macao from 30 November to 3 December at Level 3, Convention Centre, The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel.
