Yang Yang, a PhD student of the University of Macau (UM) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), recently received the best paper award at the Fifth International Conference on Computational Methods (ICCM2014) for her paper entitled “Free Vibration Analysis of the Functionally Graded Coated and Undercoated Plates”.

Yang’s paper was presented at the ICCM2014. It was jointly supervised by CEE academics Prof Iu Vai Pan, Prof Kou Kun Pang, and Dr Lam Chi Chiu. The paper analyses the free vibration characteristics of the functionally graded coated and undercoated plates with a developed meshfree boundary-domain integral equation method.

Held at the University of Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam College, the ICCM2014 featured over 270 oral presentations covering 47 technical areas. The conference provided a platform for scholars from around the world to exchange ideas on recent developments in areas related to computational methods and numerical modeling and simulation, as well as their applications in engineering and science.
