The University of Macau (UM) recently won the campus promotion award for its promotion of the new campus at the 11th China Golden Awards for Excellence in Public Relations held in Beijing, becoming the first institute from Macao to participate in this competition and win an award.

The China Golden Awards for Excellence in Public Relations is the most authoritative PR competition in China. It includes a three-round evaluation process—case review, nomination, and voting. This year, China International Public Relations Association, organiser of the event, received 192 PR cases from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

UM’s new campus is a large-scale pilot project that explores a new mode of collaboration between Guangdong and Macao SAR. It is also considered an innovative implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy. Through media and event promotions, UM’s Communications Office (CO) successfully promoted to the target audience the first-rate learning environment of the new campus, the residential college system modelled on the practice of world-class universities, as well as the university’s vision to become a world-class institution.

CO Director Katrina Cheong says that despite the various challenges encountered in the promotion of the new campus in the last four years, CO seized the opportunity and formulated different strategies at different stages to reach target audiences at home and abroad, to very good effect.

Approximately 400 guests attended the award ceremony, including former Chinese diplomats, media professionals, heads of international public relations organisations, and renowned PR experts and scholars from China and overseas.
