Mr. Yin Shi, a PhD student of Biomedical Sciences – Medicinal Administration from the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), University of Macau (UM), received full funding to attend the 49th Annual Meeting of the Drug Information Association (DIA) as a student poster presenter. This is the 7th consecutive year since 2007 that ICMS students of medicinal administration have attended DIA’s annual meetings with full funding.
The theme of this year’s DIA Annual Meeting, which was held in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, from 23 June to 27 June, is “Advancing Therapeutic Innovation and Regulatory Science”. The meeting was attended by than 7,000 people from all over the world, including officials of health regulatory bodies, members of the academic elite, representatives from medical and patient groups, as well as professionals from the pharmaceutical industry. More than 700 well-known scholars and experts gave 260 speeches covering 22 fields of study. DIA’s annual meeting includes a student forum session which gives medical students the opportunity to showcase their research findings. According to the organiser, every year the event attracts more than 2,000 student paper abstracts from more than 40 countries and regions, and approximately 20 paper abstracts which pass strict appraisal by the expert panel will be chosen to be presented at the meeting with full DIA funding. The paper submitted by Yin Shi, titled “Does the Essential Medicines Policy Succeed in China? Empirical Study on Rational Medicine Use in Primary Health Institutions”, stood out from over 2,400 candidate papers, and was selected for Track Public Policy/Health care compliance/Regulatory Law student poster presentation at Boston with full DIA funding. PhD and master’s students of medicinal administration from UM’s ICMS have been invited to attend DIA’s annual meetings with full funding for seven consecutive years since 2007, presenting papers which cover a wide range of topics, including pharmaceutical intellectual property, pharmaceutical R&D innovation, pharmaceutical industry management, and health policy evaluation. Former students who participated in DIA’s annual meetings with full DIA funding include Hu Yuanjia (PhD), Ye Mao (master), Su Weiping (master), Bai Jishan (master), Liu Jingjing (PhD), Shi Yunzhen (master) and Yin Shi (PhD). Su Weiping received the second prize at the 45th DIA Annual Meeting in 2009.
