The Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China officially announced on 2 February that four University of Macau (UM) professors, namely Prof. Qian Tao, Prof. Yuen Ka Veng and Prof. Wang Zhishi of the Faculty of Science and Technology, and Prof. Li Shaoping of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, have been included in the National Science and Technology Programmes Expert Database. These four professors will be eligible to participate in review, inspection, consulting, and information exchange activities for national programmes, including the “973 Programme”, the “863 Programme” and the “National Key Technology R&D Programme”.

To be included in the National Science and Technology Programmes Expert Database, candidates must meet strict criteria. Apart from having participated as a key research member in national science and technology programmes or programmes funded by the National Natural Science Foundation or the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macao SAR, candidates must also have a relatively high degree of expertise, technological acuity, academic acumen, a meticulous attitude, fairness in handling things, adherence to principles, and a strong sense of responsibility.
