The Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), will launch the XXIV Portuguese Language and Culture Summer Programme in 5 July 2010. The programme will last until 30 July 2010. The opening ceremony will take place at the Cultural Centre of UM on 5 July (next Monday) at 6:15 p.m.

This year’s summer programme aims to impart knowledge of the Portuguese language and culture. 430 students from different Asian countries and districts such as the Chinese Mainland, Macao, Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia applied for this programme and 300 were accepted. Local students are entitled to sponsoring from the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR.

It is a good thing that students from different Asian countries and districts gather at UM to learn the Portuguese language and culture because it will help Macao to better fulfill its role as a bridge between eastern and western cultures. Moreover, the programme will give students the opportunity to learn more about the social, economic, political and cultural situations of Macao SAR.

This year’s courses will be divided into twelve sections at four levels: Beginners’ Level, Basic Level, Intermediate Level, and Advanced Level.

Apart from regular classes and practices, the organizer will also arrange colorful cultural and recreational activities for the participants, such as visits, seminars, movies, learning drawings and Portuguese folk dances, etc.
