A closing ceremony was held recently for the Alumni Mentorship Scheme, which was co-organised by the University of Macau (UM) Alumni and Development Office (ADO) and Career Development Centre. This year, 41 alumni were matched with 56 students based on their backgrounds and interests. The alumni acted as the students’ mentors for a period of four months, during which time mentors met with their mentees regularly, shared their life experiences, and provided suggestions on career development. A series of team-building activities, such as rock climbing and Oscar Farm-Leisure Trip, were also held to strengthen the relationship between the mentors and mentees.

At the closing ceremony, Dean of Students Paul Pang encouraged the students to learn from their mentors and to gain a better understanding of the different industries. ADO Director Cindy Lam thanked the alumni mentors for their experience-sharing  and guidance . All mentors and mentees received the certificate of appreciation. Three students received the Outstanding Mentee Award. They are Wu Jia, a third-year student in the Department of Communication; Chan Mei Tim, a postgraduate student in the Department of Government and Public Administration; and Tang Hio Ieng, a fourth-year student in the Department of Accounting. They received the certificates from their mentors, Chau Ho Kei, Lai Sheung Mei, and Lai Hong Choi, respectively.

The Alumni Mentorship Scheme aims to enhance the interaction between UM alumni and current students, to encourage alumni to give back to their alma mater, and to provide opportunities for students to participate in social affairs. The upcoming Alumni Mentorship Scheme will be open for applications in August 2020. All students and alumni are welcome to apply.
