Faculty members and students in the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management (DRTM), Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), University of Macau (UM), organised various activities for visitors during the Open Day. One of the most popular attractions was the Café Lab, which is a cafe operated by students of the department, located in Room 1028 in the FBA building (E22). On the Open Day, the cafe attracted many coffee lovers, who lingered around to enjoy a cup of coffee and to learn more about the students’ creative business concepts.

On the Open Day, the students made more than 500 coffee beverages for visitors, which were served with different choices of cake. The students were trained by Hugo Fan, a fourth-year student and an award-winning professional coffee barista, and received guidance from Associate Professor Candy Tang. Apart from the delicious coffee, the Café Lab also provided a relaxing environment for visitors to exchange ideas with UM students and to learn more about their lives at UM.

According to Prof Tang, the Café Lab is an excellent example of innovative teaching and learning that combines theory and practice, and is part of the FBA’s effort to support student entrepreneurial projects. She adds that the faculty looks forward to organising more teaching and learning activities in the Café Lab in the future. During the Open Day, Rector Yonghua Song and other members of the university’s senior management team also visited the Café Lab and tasted the coffee made by the students. Rector Song also encouraged the students to follow their dreams and start their own businesses.
