The University of Macau (UM) next Friday 8 November will hold a talk titled ‘The Future of Robotics: The Tri-Co (Coexisting-Cooperative-Cognitive) Robots’ as part of the University Lecture Series. Ding Han, an expert in electromechanical engineering, will be the keynote speaker. He will discuss advanced technology in robotics and challenges facing the development of the field.

Tri-Co Robots (Coexisting-Cooperative-Cognitive Robots) are those that can naturally interact and collaborate with the environment, including human as well as other robots, and adapt to new situations. ‘Coexistence’ means robots will ubiquitously and safely work alongside human. ‘Cooperation’ means robots will collaborate and coordinate effectively with other agents through communication. ‘Cognition’ means robots will have resources to gather information, perceive and predict behaviour, and respond accordingly. This will be achieved through state-of-the-art machine learning, control, and planning algorithms. During the talk, Ding will share his experiences in robotics research and discuss how the technology will provide assistance to high-end manufacturing.

The talk will start at 4:30pm, in Mr and Mrs Lau Chor Tak Lecture Theatre (G078), Anthony Lau Building (E4), UM. It will be conducted in Mandarin, with simultaneous interpretation into English.
