A delegation formed by 12 students from the Department of Engineering Physics, Tsinghua University recently visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by Samson Cheong, head of the Student Resources Section of the Student Affairs Office and Kevin Zhen, master of Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC).

The students visited UM’s state key labs and campus to experience the rich research atmosphere, beautiful environment, and humanity of UM. Cheong expressed hope that the visiting students will share the experience with their classmates so that more students from Tsinghua will visit UM.

Zhen gave a talk on UM’s residential college system and education at CKYC, including the backgrounds of college fellows, its five educational objectives, UM’s ‘4-in-1’ model of education, daily activities, international exchange programmes, and volunteer programmes. He also talked about challenges facing residential college education against the backdrop of the world’s new technology revolution, the ‘Made in China 2025’ initiative, ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, development strategies for the development of the Greater Bay Area, and globalisation. Members of the delegation praised UM for its strategies to jointly nurture professionals with the world’s top universities and shared the current situation at Tsinghua.

The students also visited UM’s Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME), State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (University of Macau), State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, UM Wu Yee Sun Library, and the Wall of Great Wisdom.
