The new leadership of the University of Macau (UM) Student’s Union (SU) recently visited Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Tam Chon Weng. During the meeting, Rachel Ng, president of the General Assembly of the UMSU; Sabino Chao, director general of the UMSU; and Zachary Lou, supervisor general of the UMSU, told Tam about the UMSU’s division of work, the functions of different sections, and the union’s plans for the year 2019. According to Chao, the union will organise a series of activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, and the 20th anniversary of the handover of Macao. Tam praised the union for its division of work and expressed his expectations for the students. He shared the SAR government’s plan to promote the cultural heritage of Macao to visitors from around the world. Tam also encouraged the students to make good use of UM’s resources, gain experience from their work in the UMSU, improve their communication skills, and learn to think independently, in order to become a useful member of the workforce to build Macao into a better city.
