Sichuan party secretary visits UM UM and Sichuan sign two collaboration agreements

A delegation led by Peng Qinghua, party secretary of Sichuan province, today (10 November) visited the University of Macau (UM). The delegation was warmly received by UM Rector Yonghua Song, Vice Rector Lionel Ni, and Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) Director Wang Yitao. In addition to an in-depth discussion on academic exchange and research collaboration between Sichuan and Macao, both parties signed two collaboration agreements on strengthening academic exchange between universities in Macao and Sichuan as well as increasing collaboration between universities, research institutes, and industry, in order to nurture more researchers with a global vision for China.

During the meeting, Song shared UM’s development and key projects in recent years as well as the four reasons that make UM a unique university: its location in a special administrative region, its special mission, special status, and a unique model of education. He also told the guests about UM’s close collaborative relationships with numerous renowned universities, research institutes, and companies in Sichuan province. Song and Li Yunze, vice governor of Sichuan province, signed a strategic agreement on strengthening collaboration in research, talent development, and internationalisation, on behalf of UM and the Sichuan provincial government. Wang Yitao, director of the ICMS, and Tian Xingjun, party secretary of the Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences, signed a collaborative framework agreement on behalf of UM and the academy. According to the agreement, both parties will collaborate in research projects on the quality of traditional Chinese medicine and its applications.

Accompanied by Wang, the delegation visited UM’s State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and learned about the lab’s achievements in recent years. Peng also talked to UM students from Sichuan province and encouraged them to seize the opportunities brought about by the collaborations between the province and Macao. Peng also praised UM for its learning environment, its efforts in talent development, and its support for the Greater Bay Area initative.
