Prof Rui Martins, vice rector of the University of Macau (UM) and president of the Association of the Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP) for the triennium of 2013 – 2016, representing the rector of UM, attended the meeting of the AULP Board of Administrators held at the AULP’s headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal.
Also present at the meeting were: Rector Jaime Arturo Ramirez from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Rector João Gabriel Silva from the Universidade de Coimbra, Rector Judite Nascimento from the Universidade de Cabo Verde, Rector Lourenço do Rosário from the Universidade Politécnica de Moçambique, Prof Anabela Martins from the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, and Prof Carlos Lucas from the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane.
The meeting was important in selecting the venue for the AULP’s 26th meeting. For this purpose, the AULP met with a delegation of the host institution: Universidade de Timor Lorosa’e, Timor-Leste. This country celebrated the 40th anniversary of its declaration of independence at the end of last year. In 2015 it also commemorated the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Portuguese navigators who reached Timor in 1515. The AULP’s 26th meeting will take place in Dili, Timor, from June 29 to July 1.
At the AULP Board of Administrators meeting, participants also discussed the activities held by the headquarters in the last six months and new projects in higher education to be carried out. The following events are worth noting: the Fernão Mendes Pinto Award 2016, the launch of the proceedings of the AULP’s 25th Meeting which was held in Cape Verde under the overarching theme of ‘New Challenges for Higher Education against the Background of the Millennium Development Goals’, and the launch of the journal Revista Internacional em Língua Portuguesa (RILP) – Issue 27, 3rd Series, 2014.
